We're Back

We are back . . . in terms of the internet anyway!

We moved into the house two and a half weeks ago, but did not have internet service here until yesterday. I will post a more detailed update tomorrow.

Moving In

We're starting to move into the house, even though the renovations are far from over. The hardwood is now on the floors, but parts of the kitchen still need to be drywalled, my new oven needs to be installed and the kitchen cabinets need to be reassembled (not to mention the doors need to be finished!). The stairs to the second floor have been refinished, but the stairs to the basement are still unfinished. And the window installation . . . not even close. We are, however, hopeful that there will be a lot accomplished in the next few days. In the mean time, the storage units were delivered the other day and we (my niece Sarah, nephew Scott, his friend Tom and my wonderful friend Arlene) got all three of them unloaded. Who knew you could accumulate so much stuff!

A Great Weekend

What a fun weekend. The weather finally feels like summer and we were able to get out and enjoy it. Amy's friend Betty stayed for the weekend and the girls spent a huge amount of time in the pool. On Saturday night, the four of us went to Amy's first movie in a theatre, Up (in 3D). We took two cars as we didn't think Amy would make it through more than five minutes, but she really enjoyed it. There were a few times that she threw off her glasses and buried her head in my arm, but she quickly was scrambling to put them on so she could get back to the action.

This evening, she and I spent an hour in the pool before bed. I'm so proud of the progress that she has made with her swimming. Today, for the first time, she began to jump, unassisted, into the pool. And not just the shallow end, but the deep end as well! Here she is, getting into proper jumping form . . .
. . . leaping into the air . . .
. . . taking the plunge . . .
. . . and completely submerging.
Here she is showing off her backstroke (yes, the waterwings do hamper her style).
And finally, swimming on her front, face in the water, blowing bubbles.
While the girls were in the pool, here's how I spent my weekend. I was so excited about my big kitchen until I decided to refinish the cabinets myself - all 17 drawers and 32 doors. What was I thinking!! At least I was sanding and washing them by the pool.

Ugh!

We've had to remove the cupboards in the new house so that the floor can go under and drywall can go up. What a surprise the other day when we removed one of the banks of cabinets to discover this.

Ugh! It's like a can of worms. At least we were planning on putting drywall up, it's just now there are a few other things that need to be done first.

Dental Surgery

This is how Amy spent most of her day.
Yesterday, she had dental surgery and had three crowns put in. She still hasn't got over the anesthetic and now has a cold to go along with it. Amy gave up her naps long ago and even when she took them, they were always less than on hour. Today she slept for about three hours.

When she wasn't napping, she was walking around in a bit of a funk, in a favourite, but too small jacket, on a very warm day.

Definitely in a funk.
She can't keep her fingers out of her mouth . . .
. . . and here's one of the reasons why.
Oh yeah. Happy "Candada" Day.
