GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!

Tonight was Amy's first soccer game, a much anticipated event in our household. It was a cold night and it actually snowed a wee bit this morning, but that did not deter a gaggle of 3 and 4 year olds.

Robin is one of the coaches. He and the other coach decided last week, given the yellow shirts and the age of the kids, they should be called the Bumble Bees. During the team meeting prior to the game, the coaches asked the kids what yellow animal they would like to be named after. Someone put up his hand and yelled, "Lion!". Hmmm. Not quite the answer they wanted. Not to be deterred, they inquired once again if anyone could think of an animal or insect that was yellow and black striped. Another hand shot up. "Zebra!!!". Patience, patience. This is just the beginning.
One of the drills was to kick the ball down the line. Shaun, the other coach, must have told the kids to keep the ball on the line. It was refreshing to see that Amy was not the only child who went painstakingly slow and made every effort to maintain ball to line contact at all times.

The actual game was hilarious. There was a lot of standing around, coaches carrying kids (Robin just wants to add that it did not occur on our team), lots of pointing while simultaneously telling the children to run the other way, and lots of laughter. It was a fun night.
And finally, the moment we were waiting for (not that I`m one of those crazy soccer Moms). Amy stole the ball and had a breakaway.
That`s it Amy, stay in control!
Run!!!
We thought she had a sure shot, but someone got in her way and she had to do a slight detour. And then GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!
Robin explained to me after that it did not count as she had made the goal from within the crease. I guess that explains why I was the only one cheering (and hence, did not actually get a picture of my daughter`s first goal - I don`t care what you say Robin).

That's funny, me and Sean's football team last year was the Killer Bees. Skill level appears to be roughly the same. -- Kris
