December 19th - Baking with Jillian

There was no school today so Jillian came over to spend the day with Amy. The Main Event for the day was decorating Christmas cookies. Given the mess Amy and I created the last time we made cookies, I wisely made the dough before hand! This way, the girls could put more creative energy into their designs. For those that really know me, you will have experienced my desire for all things to be done 'correctly'. One of the important lessons my dear daughter has taught me, is to let go of all preconceived notions I might have about what 'correctly' actually means. For instance, who says one cannot put (shudder) Valentines sprinkles on Christmas cookies?
Jillian too, seems bent on teaching me how to decorate with a modern interpretation of a traditional activity. Yes, those are bright pink sprinkles being used!
"Have you ever read the ingredients list on these sprinkles?"
Masterpieces . . . every last one of them! And by far the most beautiful cookies that have ever graced my kitchen.
