January 24th - Grandpa's Birthday

My Dad's birthday was a few weeks ago, but due to a busy schedule, we were unable to get out to the farm to celebrate with him. This Saturday, however, we did just that.

We got to there late in the day and the two girls got to work right away constructing Grandpa's birthday cake. We used extra cakes and icing that I had left over from the wedding, so there was no baking involved (Thank goodness! I'm a little sick of that right now!). Betty assembled the layers and then they both commenced the icing process.
The theme of the cake was originally "farm". Given Dad's a farmer and lives on a farm, it wasn't much of a stretch, but somehow, deer managed to make their way onto the cake and the tractor and barn were quickly done away with, given the lack of space. It ended up being more representative of "farm meets forest on a tropical beach at Thanksgiving" (Someone was insistent on adding a "Gobble Gobble" sign left over from another holiday cake).
Dad proclaimed it to be the most beautiful birthday cake he's ever been fortunate enough to enjoy.

Amy loves Fancy Nancy books, and so we must all wear fancy hats whenever appropriate. Lucky for Grandpa, the Birthday Boy gets the fanciest hat of all!

When you're 75, it takes a lot of effort to open your many presents! Thankfully, there were people there to help him.
Dad loves cereal and eats it at least once a day, hence the many large boxes of various flavours. Happy Birthday Grandpa!
